District Management Group

Having its roots in the former Civil Service of Pakistan (CSP), the District Management Group (DMG) despite the recent historic restructuring of power and authority in Pakistan, continues to maintain its niche of being a central and one of the most coveted Administrative service groups of the Civil Service of Pakistan albeit with a slightly changed scope and mandate. The DMG basically draws its vigor from its singular service structure having forward and backward linkages Its unique service organization, on one hand attracts the top achievers in the civil services examination to this Group, and subsequently this structure having enormous horizontal and vertical mobility chances enables the selected officers to occupy critical and leading administrative positions from the very beginning of their careers. It is again these vast horizontal mobility opportunities, which facilitate most challenging openings to the DMG officers. They usually begin careers as administrative officers of Govern

District Management Group

District Management Group or DMG, is an elite cadre of the Civil Service of Pakistan . Officers in this group are recruited through a competitive examination held once a year by the Federal Public Service Commission of Pakistan. Those selected for this group have to undergo a two-year training programme at the Civil Services Academy (CSA) in Lahore, Pakistan . The Indian Civil Service (ICS)—also known once as Imperial Civil Service, predecessor of the Civil Service of Pakistan and District Management Group—was established by the British to bolster the British Raj . After Indian independence , the ICS component ceded to Pakistan was renamed the Pakistan Administrative Service. Later it was named the Civil Service of Pakistan. In 1954, an agreement was reached between the Governor General of Pakistan and the governors of the provinces to constitute an All-Pakistan service. Under administrative reforms of 1973, the name of Civil Service of Pakistan was changed to All-Pakistan Unified

Joining the Civil Service of Pakistan

Opting for the civil service impregnably on the grounds that it will be lucrative, well-paid, full of portentous perks and privileges, unprecedented power vs authority nexus, the quality of accommodation etc. must not be the core reasons to join the services. Firstly, one needs to be very realist, i believe, while choosing civil services as a career. One should join the civil service with an intent to serve the nation no matter it is at home or abroad. Every cadre has its discerning pros and cons. One comes to the reality, and nuts and bolts of a particular service when one joins it. Secondly, civil service is not about money minting. Civil service is about the honour, prestige and the tag you carry to serve your people and country. Thirdly, before joining civil service one should analyse what one has got to offer to one's country and service by meticulously assessing one's personality not on the grounds what a particular service has got to offer him. If someone opts for any se

Is Pakistan a failed state? I say NO

“One of lessons of history is that you cannot take any civilization for granted. Its permanency is never assured. There is always a dark age waiting for you around the corner, if you play your cards badly and make sufficient mistakes.” Richard M. Nixon "It is not that Pakistan has failed but the interests of self-seeking adventurers" - Omar Kureshi Today Pakistan is grappling with economic, energy, governance and political crisis whereas, on the other hand it faces mammoth existential threat in the form of terrorism and a nationwide insurgency. The impotency of political leadership and its inability to cope with these challenges have tagged Pakistan as a failed state. Despite all this, the situation is further compounding from bad to worse. International media has left no stone unturned to fish in the troubled waters. It is an extremely perplexing situation for Pakistan. According to a US-based Foreign Policy journal, Pakistan is contending Somalia, Zimbabwe, Sudan, Chad, Dem

The Creation of New Provinces

The creation of new provinces is a constitutional and legitimate right as enshrined in the 1973 Constitution of Pakistan. Srikistan has become a buzz word and it is being exploited by the native politicians. Though poverty persists and there are rare good health and educational facilities in southern Punjab yet the creation of new province cannot solve this problem alone. It is a matter of poor governance, and only good governance can ameliorate the grudges of those living in southern Punjab. Therefore, i have follwoing reservations over the creation of new provinces: Who will guarantee that the poor will get their share after the creation of new provinces? Who will ensure that there will be better educational and health facilities, and improved infrastructure? Who will hold the onus to shrug off the rampant feudal system in the new province? These feudals? Why should the simpletons believe that the political leaders will safeguard their interests? Presently, most MNAs from southern Pu

Creation of New Provinces in Pakistan

Dear Readers, First, in the prelude of my previous post i stated that the creation of a new province is a constitutional, legitimate and democratic right. But it is a high time and this demand would surely open a pandora's box and our country can ill afford at this critical juncture. Second, our honourable Prime Minister and some other renowned ministers are from the southern Punjab. If the creation of a new province is purely based upon the agendum of development as per the aspirations of the people, why don't the aboriginals press hard upon the said stakeholders to expedite the matter of development there? The locals must seize this opportunity to get the panjandrums focus on the development of infrastructure, education, health care etc. Some development projects have been initiated at the behest of the PM. Third, you have impulsively quoted and compared the present circumstances with that of united India. Both scenarios have different aspects and paradigms. But alarming pove
